About
Driftway is the literary imprint of Rambler Books. We publish novels and shorter fiction that think out loud: books about the systems people live inside, the roles they are handed, and the choices left to them.
A driftway is an old drovers' road, a track made by walking rather than by plan. The name is for literary and philosophical fiction: novels that follow an idea wherever it leads, and trust the reader to keep up.
What we publish
We are not here to chase trends. Literature moves when someone makes room for the misfit manuscript: the book that crosses genres, asks an uncomfortable question, or comes from a place we do not yet have a word for.
We publish literary and philosophical fiction. Some novels will lean speculative, some psychological, some dark. Our first book, She Comes With the House by August Folly, is forthcoming, and other authors will follow.
How we work
- Authors never pay us. No reading fees, no publishing fees, and no obligation to buy copies. Money flows to the writer.
- Royalties on what we receive. 50% of our net receipts on ebooks and audiobooks, and 30% on print after printing costs, with statements twice a year.
- One agreement for every author. The same standard terms, offered to each writer we publish.
- Care with every book. Books are edited, given professional covers and published in ebook and print.
- Plain dealing. Rights return to the author when a book stops selling, and we will always say who holds the rights to a book.
